Beaver Vanderwees Farm

Vanderwees Nature Trail - 6488 Mapleward Road

Fallen trees are the perfect habitat for many small animals. The beavers here use felled trees to build their lodges, eating the bark while they stay cozy and warm over the winter. Other animals, like snails, insects, frogs, and rodents use fallen trees for shelter and food as well.  While some trees fall over because of wind or rot, you can tell that a beaver has felled a tree by the distinctive wood chips found around the pointed stump.

Clue: Keep walking until you are below the water level of the beaver dam!

Please Note: Turn left onto the trail that leads to the beaver dam.
